Stanton Englehart

I grew up next door to Stanton, Pat and their kids. Their daughter was one of my best friends.
I highly recommend that you check out this site about a wonderful artist.
Stanton is suffering from Alzheimer's now and no longer paints. It breaks my heart and I feel so strongly for Pat now that she is his caretaker.
I love them both and bought this book in support of them.
http://www.stantonenglehartbook.com/
After receiving the book and seeing the work he produced in the 80's and 90's I almost wish I hadn't left Colorado. Isn't hindsight great? Imagine if he had been my art professor in college. The more I read about him and how he paints the closer I feel.
You can view and purchase Stanton's work at Toh-Atin Gallery in Durango, CO.

Grackle
Not a glass piece... my other medium or mediums. I like watercolor and ink. And I LOVE grackles and other black birds :-)
Water and Fire
I was introduced by a friend to http://laughingcrowstudio.blogspot.com/ and wrote a comment to a post in her Blog. I don't often write in ways that seem coherent, lol, I'm an artist not a writer. But I liked what I wrote so I wanted to include it here in my Blog.
I personally strive to not be realistic, which normally emerges because I crave order and rules. I also take very little in the way of instruction, just the basics, so I learn to express my own heart and being not just copy someone else's style. I love watercolor and glass because they will do what they will do. You can make them be exact like painting watercolor in a dry brush style, or making things of stained glass... but once you add water or heat they will do what their nature tells them to do... I can only point in a direction and watch as the medium becomes a partner in creation instead of a tool.

Orange Frit & Gold Mica
I'm real happy with this so far. I love the gold mica under the pebbles and how they sank into the surrounding glass. I need to grind the sides some to get the shape ready for slumping.

I'm real happy with this 7 1/2" disc. I don't think I'll slump it. Hope I can find a good upright stand for it.
